Chief Officer (Cruise Line)Role OverviewThe Chief Officer is the second-in-command on board a cruise vessel and holds overall responsibility for the vessel’s safe navigation, stability, and cargo/passenger operations. As the Master’s principal deputy, the Chief Officer manages the deck department, ensuring compliance with international maritime regulations, safety management systems, and company policies. The role requires strong leadership, operational expertise, and commitment to passenger and crew safety.Key ResponsibilitiesNavigation & Vessel Operations• Act as the Master’s deputy and assume command in their absence.• Oversee safe navigation and voyage planning in accordance with COLREGS, SOLAS, and company policies.• Maintain up-to-date nautical charts, publications, and navigational equipment.• Ensure proper stability, ballasting, and draft management of the vessel.

Safety & Compliance• Serve as the ship’s Safety Officer, responsible for implementing and monitoring the Safety Management System (SMS).• Organize, lead, and record all safety drills and training, including lifeboat and emergency exercises.• Ensure compliance with MARPOL, ISM, ISPS, and flag/state regulations.• Conduct regular inspections of lifesaving appliances, firefighting equipment, and safety gear.
