Interim / freelance assignment, 6 months.This is a 6-month assignment covering a colleague’s leave, with real ownership from the start, not a watching brief.

Job description Tired of closing the books and ready to actually shape decisions? This Senior Controller seat sits with an established upstream oil & gas producer active on the Dutch continental shelf. You’ll step into a running book from day one – challenging capital spend in AFE reviews, managing the finance side of operated joint ventures, calculating decommissioning security provisions, and owning the Dutch tax obligations that come with producing on Dutch soil and in Dutch waters. What You’ll OwnBudgets & Forecasts – Coordinate, consolidate, and challenge CAPEX, OPEX, and G&A budgets. Management comes to you for the real picture.Projects – Own AFEs from submission through review, sit in AFE review meetings, feed into long-range planning, and review decommissioning security (DSP) and project economics.Joint Ventures – Manage JV reporting, budget updates, investment approvals, and cost recovery. Support audits and Sector Agreement Fund reporting.Commercial – Profitability and cashflow reporting, Decommissioning Security Agreement calculations, M&A and sustainability input, reserves reporting.Tax – Manage CIT, SPS, and Cijns – the Dutch tax obligations specific to upstream production. Own tax accounting, reconciliations, compliance filings, FAR, and ARO.Beyond the core – Insurance submissions, ESTMA/EITI reporting, inventory reconciliation, and process improvement, with senior-level support to the wider accounting team as needed.What You BringStrong background as a Senior/Asset/Project Controller – Dutch upstream oil & gas experience is the single most important qualifierComfortable hitting the ground running on a fixed-term assignment – able to pick up an existing book of AFEs, JVs, and tax filings with minimal ramp-upComing from offshore, maritime, or energy infrastructure controlling instead? That’s fine, you don’t need ESTMA, FAR, or Cijns already, but you do need real industry exposure to decommissioning, AFE-style capital control, and asset-heavy commercial complexityGenuinely engrained in the Dutch business and tax environmentComfortable operating independently at a senior level – reviewing, challenging, advising, not just recordingBased in, or fully available to work from, the NetherlandsAvailable to start on short notice and commit for the full 6 monthsThe Practical DetailsAssignment length: 6 months (interim/freelance, covering a leave of absence)Location: Friesland or Amsterdam, hybrid – occasional Friesland travel if Amsterdam-basedHours: 40 hours/weekTeam: Team of 5, reporting to a Financial Controller and Finance Team Lead for the country
