Russia is seeking $1bn in compensation from the owners of two tankers that broke up and spilled thousands of barrels of oil during a fierce storm in the Kerch Strait. The Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources claimed RUB 84.9bn after oil from the double casualty on 15 December washed up on the shores of the country’s Krasnodar Krai region and Russian-occupied Crimea.
